An interview with Dimiter Delchev, Operations Manager at Hotel Marvel, Sunny Beach

According to guest reviews, Hotel Marvel ranks among the best four-star seaside hotels in Bulgariaand is also included in the TOP 100 Best Hotels in Bulgaria 2025 ranking and awarded the VVV+ level for excellent quality. What is the “formula” behind maintaining such a high standard of service in the dynamic environment of Sunny Beach?

The formula for maintaining a high standard of service in a dynamic environment lies in balancing clearly structured processes with flexibility toward the individual needs of our guests. Continuous training and motivation of the team, attention to detail, and proactive communication allow us to respond quickly and appropriately to every situation. When combined with team commitment and a genuine attitude toward the guest, a high level of service becomes a sustainable standard rather than an exception.

What role does the hotel’s online reputation play in daily management? To what extent does detailed guest feedback influence your management decisions and require real-time changes?

Online reputation is part of our daily rhythm. We closely monitor guest feedback because it reflects how the stay at Hotel Marvel is truly experienced. Often, comments reveal details that may not always be visible from the inside. We strive to respond quickly, which helps us remain flexible and aligned with guest expectations.

High quality is impossible without a motivated team. How do you engage and retain staff in a sector where labor shortages are one of the main challenges?

Hospitality is about working with people — both guests and team members. The team is the heart of every service. We strive to build an environment where employees clearly understand what is expected of them and feel supported during busy periods. We invest not only in training, but also in open and human dialogue. We believe that when people feel calm and secure, this naturally reflects in the quality of service they provide.

In 2024, the hotel underwent a complete renovation. What were the main highlights of this renovation, and what are the next steps planned to surprise your guests in the 2026 season?

The 2024 renovation was an opportunity to look at the hotel through the eyes of our guests. We focused on enhanced comfort, more light, improved functionality, and new spaces for relaxation and entertainment. The investment project included the renovation of all guest rooms, restaurants, bars, and the SPA center, as well as the construction of multifunctional conference halls and a children’s play area with a game room.

In our continued effort to enhance the guest experience, for the summer 2026 season the hotel will open with a brand-new heated outdoor pool with a jacuzzi for adults, along with a new heated outdoor children’s pool.

How would you describe the “taste of summer” at Hotel Marvel? How does your All Inclusive concept differ from the standard offerings in Sunny Beach?

For us, the “taste of summer” is a feeling of lightness and choice without unnecessary extravagance.

Our All Inclusive concept combines high-quality products, balanced menus, themed evenings, and a rich variety of restaurants and flavors that cater to different preferences and moods. Our goal is for the culinary experience to become a natural extension of the pleasure of the holiday itself.

What is the balance between Bulgarian and international guests, and are there markets showing growing interest in Hotel Marvel?

Hotel Marvel has traditionally been well recognized on international markets, but in recent years we have noticed a growing interest from Bulgarian guests as well. This is important to us, as it shows that our product is relevant and competitive not only internationally but also domestically. We work to ensure that all audiences feel equally welcome.

What remains “behind the scenes” in the management of a large seaside hotel? Can you share any interesting or amusing situations from your daily work?

Behind the scenes, there is significant coordination and quick decision-making that guests rarely notice — and that is precisely a sign that the system works. Sometimes it involves purely logistical matters; other times, unexpected and even amusing situations arise. Every day is different, which makes hotel management both challenging and engaging. Ultimately, behind every peaceful vacation and satisfied guest stands dynamic, lively, and fundamentally human work.

How do you turn a standard hotel stay into an emotional experience that brings guests back year after year?

Through a commitment to development, consistency, and a personal approach. When guests feel recognized and see that standards are maintained regardless of occupancy levels, their stay becomes a genuine experience and trust is built. That trust is strengthened over time through consistency in quality and attention to detail. It is precisely this trust that encourages many of our guests to return again and again.

What are the biggest challenges in managing a large seaside hotel, and how do you address them in conditions of strong seasonality and competition?

One of the biggest challenges in managing a large seaside hotel is seasonality, which requires extremely precise planning of resources, teams, and services within a short but intense period. Adaptability to a rapidly changing market — including evolving guest needs and expectations — investments in the hotel product and the team, and the ability to implement changes quickly are factors that help us not only meet expectations but remain competitive and recognizable in the long term.

Finally, what advice would you give to fellow hoteliers who aim to develop a more sustainable, high-quality, and competitive tourism product in Sunny Beach and along the Bulgarian Black Sea coast?

Rather than advice, I would share a personal observation. In the long term, the most sustainable decisions are those that are consistent and well considered — without rushed compromises. Quality, reputation, and relationships with people are built over time and with patience. The Bulgarian Black Sea coast has significant potential, and I believe that a sustainable approach combined with respect for guests and teams will continue to develop it in the right direction.
