From the Danube to the Turkish Border: Silvia Kiosseva’s Inspirational Run Along the Entire Bulgarian Black Sea Coast

Start

In May, Silvia Kiosseva, owner and general manager of a hotel in Sunny Beach and a graduate of Bocconi University in Milan, with experience in renowned international hotel chains, started her ‘1 SEA’ initiative with the aim of unveiling the beauty of the Bulgarian Black Sea coast and popularizing it as a place for sports tourism.

On May 11, at the first light of the day, Silvia Kiosseva, together with her family, friends and like-minded people, started an unforgettable adventure. Their goal was to cover about 400 kilometers from Durankulak to Rezovo, along sheer cliffs, sandy beaches, natural phenomena, historical landmarks, resorts, ancient towns and more, within six days, dividing the distance into six stages of 65-75 kilometers each day.

The beginning: Durankulak to Bulgarevo

The first day started from the northernmost point of the Bulgarian Black Sea coast. Silvia’s path passed through scenic natural sites such as Lake Durankulak, custodian of one of the most ancient cultures in the world – Hamangia; the saltwater Shablenska Tuzla Lagoon, a paradise for ornithologists from all over the world and home to many protected bird species, as well as the iconic lighthouse at Shabla Cape. They also passed the Yailata archaeological reserve near Kamen Bryag, as well as the dramatic sheer cliffs of Tyulenovo. The day ended with moments of contemplation near the beloved Kaliakra Cape and its tile-red colors and Bulgarevo village, famous for its sweet melons and watermelons.

The second day: Bulgarevo to Varna

The sun shone on the second day of the adventure, full of fresh energy and support. The road passed through the beautiful seaside fields of Dobruja, through Kavarna and Balchik, offering impressive views from the Topola panoramic platform. The day ended in Varna, where Silvia was welcomed by the city’s mayor.

The third day: Varna to Obzor

The third day was full of challenges, including heavy rain and difficult terrain. Silvia and her companions crossed an old Roman road and encountered unexpected obstacles, but nevertheless managed to reach Obzor.

The fourth day: Obzor to Aheloy

A special day for Silvia because she was returning to her home in Sunny Beach. The road passed through Cape Emine and Emona, providing incredible panoramic views of the Black Sea. After more kilometers, Silvia reached Aheloy.

The fifth day: Aheloy to Duni

The penultimate day started hesitantly, but despite fatigue and tight muscles, Silvia managed to pass through Pomorie, Burgas and Chernomorets, ending the day in Duni.

The last day: Duni to Rezovo

The final stage passed through the wild and beautiful nature of Strandzha Mountain. Silvia and her companions passed through Primorsko, Kiten, Lozenets and Tsarevo, reaching the southernmost point of the Bulgarian Black Sea coast at the mouth of the Rezovska River.

Silvia Kiosseva managed to run 400 kilometers along the shores of the Black Sea, demonstrating the strength of spirit and body. Her adventure is proof of the incredible beauty and potential of the Bulgarian Black Sea coast, which can be traveled on foot or by bike, revealing its secrets and beauties.

Silvia ‘s run showed that tourism is a shared experience where people are the most important part.
