An interview with Dimitar Nikov, General Manager of Wave Resort, Pomorie

Wave Resort succeeds thanks to a comprehensive approach to service quality, innovation, and attention to detail. This level of competitiveness is achieved through several key factors: continuous improvement of services, a personalized approach to each guest, as well as our location and overall atmosphere.
Every year we invest significant resources and effort into enhancing the quality of our product. We continuously expand our range of services, elevate the standard of food and beverages—including the à la carte offering—and at the same time strive to further improve service excellence.
These factors, combined with constant market monitoring and adaptation to new trends, allow Wave Resort to remain one of the leading five-star seaside hotels in Bulgaria. This is the result of strategic management and a consistent pursuit of excellence in every aspect of hospitality.
Please tell us more about the concept, services and markets of Wave Resort. What sets you apart from other high-end seaside hotels?
Wave Resort is an outstanding example of a premium seaside destination, combining modern infrastructure with natural harmony and comfort. Our core concept is to offer a balanced experience that brings together relaxation, active leisure, and high-end gastronomy. This makes the resort equally suitable for families as well as couples.
Our location is truly unique—away from noisy, overcrowded and overdeveloped resorts, right on the beachfront with direct access to a private beach. At the same time, we are located next to the Pomorie Lake Nature Reserve, famous for its salt pans and healing mud.
Another distinctive feature is the vast area on which Wave Resort is built, featuring numerous pools, attractions, dining venues, and entertainment facilities. Guests never need to wake up early to reserve sun loungers—there is plenty of space for everyone: families with children, couples, and individual guests seeking tranquility and sophistication.
We are currently implementing several new initiatives and services that will further enrich our guests’ experience and enhance comfort and luxury. One of them is the construction of 13 luxury villas, offering exceptional space, modern amenities, and personalized service—creating a sense of privacy and exclusivity.
What new initiatives or services are you planning in the near future?
We are also unveiling a fully renovated beach bar, designed to become a vibrant hub for social events, relaxation, and entertainment.
In addition, we continue our policy of heating the pools. Alongside the existing seven heated pools, next season we will also heat the lagoon on the Aheloy side of the resort.
How do you select and motivate your team to ensure consistently high service standards?
A large part of our staff returns every year, which guarantees experience and demonstrates loyalty. For new team members, including qualified professionals from Bali, Indonesia, we provide specialized training and structured integration.
We motivate our team by creating a positive working environment, offering opportunities for professional development, and ensuring fair remuneration. This approach maintains a high level of service quality and strong employee engagement.
What is the gastronomic concept of the restaurants at Wave Resort, and how do you balance variety with special tasting experiences?
The gastronomic concept at Wave Resort combines local and international flavors, using fresh, seasonal, and high-quality products. Our main restaurant offers a diverse menu catering to different guest preferences.
In addition, we operate three à la carte restaurants—Asian, Bulgarian, and Mediterranean—and regularly organize special tastings and themed evenings. These experiences create a unique culinary journey and continuously spark guests’ curiosity.
How do you balance entertainment for families with children and services for couples seeking tranquility?
We offer clearly defined zones for families with children, couples, and adults-only areas, ensuring comfort and peace for all guests. The resort features an aquapark area and large children’s centers, creating an ideal environment for fun and relaxation for our youngest visitors.
In your opinion, is the Bulgarian Black Sea hotel product competitive compared to destinations such as Greece, Turkey, Croatia, and others—and why?
The Bulgarian hotel product on the Black Sea coast, including Wave Resort, competes successfully with destinations such as Greece, Turkey, and Spain. Without sounding immodest, our offering delivers high quality, variety, and modern amenities at more attractive prices.
Can you share interesting or fun behind-the-scenes moments that guests usually don’t see? And what would you like them to know about the hotel beyond the advertising and photos?
In reality, our guests don’t see any of the “behind-the-scenes” work—simply because they are too busy enjoying this wonderful place 😊 While they relax by the pool or have fun on the beach, we quietly and diligently ensure that everything runs perfectly.
What photos and advertisements can’t show is how much care, dedication, and how many smiles stand behind every small detail—so that you feel at home… just with a better view and without worries 😊
