This recognition is a great honor and, at the same time, a significant responsibility. Being ranked among the best four-star leisure hotels in Bulgaria is a high evaluation of the effort and dedication we put into our work every single day.
For our entire team, hospitality is not just a service – it is the art of creating emotions and meaningful experiences. This recognition proves that our commitment to authenticity, loyalty and personalized service has reached the hearts of our guests. While such awards are an official measure of quality and prestige, we firmly believe that the most valuable rewards are our guests’ smiles, positive feedback and the memories they take home with them. What decisions and efforts stand behind this success, and how do you maintain a consistently high level of quality and service?
Behind this success stand the tireless efforts, vision and uncompromising dedication of the owners, the management team and every committed employee. This award proves that high service standards, combined with an innovative approach and attention to detail, are the key to sustainable success.
We do not simply provide a service – we create special moments that our guests appreciate and seek out, now for more than 20 years.
Which features, characteristics or “extras” distinguish Diplomat Plaza from other leisure hotels?
Over the past two decades, the hotel has established itself as a harmonious combination of modern art architecture, comfort and meticulous attention to detail. The room concept at Diplomat Plaza is based on artistic interior solutions and imagination, individually expressed in every single space.

What is the role of the team behind the high guest ratings, and how do you motivate and retain good professionals?
The team at Diplomat Plaza is the main driving force behind its success. High guest ratings are not a coincidence, but the result of a well-established corporate culture that places people at its core.
In hospitality, the “product” is not only the physical facilities, but the overall experience. In a sector with high staff turnover, retaining good professionals is a real challenge. That is why our approach is based on several long-proven principles: stability, opportunities for internal growth, a positive working environment, clear goals, bonus systems and, last but not least, continuous investment in training.
Diplomat Plaza is located in an environmentally clean area near the Iskar Gorge. How does the surrounding nature become part of the overall guest experience?
The hotel is situated in an ecologically clean region, right next to the picturesque Iskar Gorge and the Iskar–Panega Geopark, allowing guests to enjoy the area’s natural landmarks throughout the year.
Among them are the rock phenomenon Prohodna Cave (known as the “Eyes of God”), Svirchovitsa Cave, the rock formations Provartenika and Strupanitsa, the Kotlen Circus, the beautiful canyon of the Zlatna Panega River, the ancient rock monastery “St. Nicholas” – Gligora, Zlaten Park and many others.
The region is ideal for outdoor team-building programs, including archery, off-road jeep tours, photo safaris, bungee jumping from Prohodna Cave, boating and water bikes, rock climbing, alpine rappelling, rafting, paintball, picnics and nature games.
Numerous studies indicate that the region has a strong positive energy. By connecting with the surrounding nature, guests leave recharged, inspired and enriched with unforgettable moments.

How do you maintain a balance between environmental sustainability and increased tourist interest in the region?
Maintaining a balance between environmental sustainability and growing tourist interest in the Lukovit area is a complex process based on the principles of sustainable eco-tourism. The municipality and local organizations apply several key strategies to preserve the natural heritage.
Despite these efforts, “tourist pressure” during weekends remains a challenge. Sustainability depends not only on institutions, but also on the personal responsibility of every visitor.

How do you combine relaxation, active leisure and business events into one balanced hotel concept?
Achieving balance between these three worlds is a complete philosophy. This is how we bring them together:
Art atmosphere – hotel rooms offer not just accommodation, but a journey around the world. Thanks to their unique interiors, themed rooms take guests from “Hong Kong” to “Paris” and “Dubai”, as well as into the artistic universe of Stavri Kalinov through rooms such as “Kalinomania”, “Cairo” and “Art Night”.
Modern business facilities in a cozy environment – the conference area covers 450 sq. m and includes three halls with capacities from 15 to 150 seats, natural daylight, coffee break and cocktail areas, and comfortable relaxation zones.
Wellness programs and nature walks – the destination allows us to organize outdoor activities that perfectly complement corporate events and family holidays alike.

What most often pleasantly surprises first-time guests?
Guests usually arrive with certain expectations based on photos and reviews. The real surprise, however, often lies in the small details and the personal approach of our team.
What most often brings smiles includes personal attention, thoughtful gestures such as welcome drinks or in-room compliments, and the overall comfort and cleanliness. Guests may not remember the color of the carpet, but they always remember how we made them feel – and whether they truly rested.

What is the role of local partnerships in the experience you offer?
Local partners are the bridge that turns an ordinary stay into a meaningful journey.
Our partnerships with adventure and water sports teams and attractions such as Zlaten Park allow guests to explore nature beyond the hotel grounds. We also offer value-added packages, including excursions, picnics and team-building programs organized by our dedicated SET (Special Event Team).
We work with local agricultural producers for dairy products, traditional Lukovit specialties, honey and more. Guests highly appreciate knowing the story behind their food, which builds trust and sustainable partnerships.
Local guides and storytellers are also part of our extended team – transforming simple walks into memorable experiences through stories no brochure can replace.

Can you share interesting or amusing behind-the-scenes moments from daily hotel life?
There is an unwritten rule in tourism: “The swan looks calm and graceful above the water, but beneath the surface its legs are paddling furiously.”
A good team’s goal is for guests never to notice that the helium for the balloons ran out an hour before the event or that the DJ is stuck in traffic. Overbooking puzzles and last-minute rearrangements are part of everyday life – but everything is manageable with a united team.
What advice would you give to leisure hotel owners and managers aiming for sustainable success?
Creating an unforgettable experience requires shifting from selling “overnight stays” to selling “emotions and memories.” In a world where luxury is becoming increasingly accessible, authenticity and personal care are the new currency.
Small gestures, smiling employees and anticipating guests’ needs are the foundation of long-term success. Success does not come from the price of a room for one night, but from the ability to turn guests into ambassadors of the brand.
